We will NOT be disconnecting the battery, as we will not be disconnecting the airbag
1. Start the car and turn the sterring wheel 180deg, so the logo is upside down. Adjust the steering wheel column to the top position. This makes working with airbag much easier
2. Turn the ignition OFF
Watch this video to understand how the airbag locks work. It's a simple mechanism where spring holds the grooved pole. There is one lock on the left and one on the right side
3. Insert the TOOL into the airbag release hole. At 10-15deg up from horizontal. Feel the spring at about 10mm deep. Push the spring untill tool is no more that 25mm in. If you don't feel the spring after 10mm in - start again. When you feel the spring engaged - work/pull airbag a little on that side, and that side will pop out. About 5-10mm out. Do not apply any real force. It pops out very easy if you disengaged the spring
5. Repeat and pop out the other side of the airbag
6. Carefully take the airbag out and into the towel. Make sure towel covers center trim, so everything is protected from scratches
7. Locate small black box at the top. We need to pull it forward a little to get access to the knob connector on the left. It's hinged on the bottom and has small tab on top. Insert small flat screwdriver right of the tab, and carefully twist 90deg and work it to release the tab
9. Pull the top of the box towards wheel center. It will go 10-15 mm
10. Unplug the knob connector. It's usually white and easily traceble to the Sport Chrono knob. It has a tiny tab to press on far side. People with big hands can ask for help from somebody with small fingers
11. Plug in the Memory Module in between the knob connector and the black box
12. Push the black box back where it was, untill it engages the tab on top
13. Slide Memory Module into gap between black box and metal. Flat side touching the black box. It should go about 10mm down/hidden
14. Make everything look nice. Check that
(1) the plastic tab holds the knob harness
(2) Memory Module nicely inserted and not sticking out
(3) Its harness is nice and flat against black box and not in airbag space. If it resisting - use a little piece of electrical tape
15. Test the module. Turn the ignition ON, rotate knob to any mode, ignition OFF, ON again - it should switch to the selected mode all by itself
16. Insert the airbag back. Push on both sides untill hear two clicks. It should go in easy and unobstructed. It should be centered in the trim. The gaps around should be the same
That's it. Enjoy the driving modes the way it should've been from the factory. If you just want A/S/S disabled - use I mode and disable A/S/S for Individal mode on setup screen.
To disable Memory function - rotate the knob 9 times in one direction. The lights will blink, and it will be disabled. Same procedure to enable it.
